Sun Switch Learn

Solar, explained. Plans, made simple.

Straightforward guides to what solar costs, which incentives may apply, whether a battery makes sense, and how to compare plans — without the sales pitch.

Quick check

Is solar right for you?

Answer five quick questions for a rough, general read. Nothing is sent anywhere — it all runs in your browser.

1. Do you own your home (or have the owner’s approval to add solar)?

Renters usually can’t install rooftop solar, but community solar may be an option.

2. Is your roof in good shape — not due for replacement in the next several years?

Panels typically stay up for decades; replacing a roof under them adds cost.

3. Does your roof (or yard) get direct sun most of the day, with little shade?

In the U.S., south- and west-facing surfaces usually produce the most.

4. Is your average monthly electric bill fairly high — roughly $100 or more?

Higher bills usually mean more potential savings. This threshold is a rough rule of thumb.

5. Do you plan to stay in your home at least 5–7 more years?

Payback periods commonly run several years; staying longer usually improves the math.
